This Pint of Science event brings together a biological perspective on proteins partnering strategies and computer malware prevention.

How do proteins find their soulmates? What threats to our society will computer forensics tackle next?

Join us to find out! All talks will be in English.

Partnering Proteins

Dr. Inga Pfeffer (Postdoctoral Fellow, Wilmanns Group, EMBL Hamburg)
Finding the right partner isn't easy! With us, looks can be very important, but is it the same with proteins? How does a protein know who to connect with? Structural biology can answer these questions, as we begin to understand how proteins discover their partners and "personal preferences".

The Science of Malware

Dr. Morton Swimmer (Forward-Looking Threat Research Manager, Trend Micro, Inc.)
Most of the time, Malware is a threat to security and it needs to be eradicated as soon as possible and that is it. But Malware is scientifically fascinating in that it relates to many fundamental problems in Computer Science. In this talk, we’ll take a lighthearted whirlwind tour of the science of Malware from the mid 1980’s to the present and examine how we approach these problems, how these problems relate to mathematics and biology and what problems we think we’ll face in the future.
