Focus on the small scale: how microscopy changes our minds

Yassin Harim (Biologist, PhD student, German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ))
Observing something that we cannot see with the "naked eye" is intrinsically fascinating. It's no wonder that microscopes, the devices that allow us to do just that, have been around for over 400 years. They have since enabled many ground-breaking discoveries, all the way back to identifying bacteria in the 17th century. Since then, microscopy has made tremendous progress. In this talk, we will explore how far microscopy has come and how you can become a citizen scientist yourself by having your own microscope.

Discovering The World of Molecular Biology at EMBL

Sara Verstraeten (Project Lead The World of Molecular Biology; TREC Outreach & Public Engagement Manager)
The World of Molecular Biology will be a vibrant education & outreach space. EMBL will open a permanent exhibition to make their research accessible to the public and spark interest in the Life Sciences. By connecting the different scales of life and highlighting how human and planetary health are intertwined, The World of Molecular Biology addresses urgent global challenges like climate change, pollution, or infectious disease emergence. In this talk, you will find out more about what you can expect to find in this exhibition that will open its doors in fall 2022. Photo credit: hsd
