Reciprocity and the evolution of cooperation

Reciprocity is a mechanism that enables cooperation among humans beyond biological relations. It can be direct, indirect (based on reputation) or generalized (based on gratitude). The talk will explore how these types of reciprocity interact and which one is predominantly selected by individuals when cooperation evolves in populations. The use of simulations helps showing that environmental conditions play a significant role in governing the evolution of reciprocity.

Excuse me, do you have a moment to talk about our carbon-neutral future?

This talk highlights the need to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions to combat climate change. The three approaches to deal with CO2, namely CO2 avoidance, CO2 reduction, and CO2 removal, are discussed along with their application in the energy system, heating, transportation, and agricultural sectors. The talk also covers upcoming technologies, including carbon dioxide removal techniques, and the need for a just and inclusive transition to a CO2-neutral economy. While the focus is on Germany's case, questions related to any carbon-related issue during the presentation are encouraged!

AI - Artificial Inequality?

Artificial intelligence is used to determine credit scores, insurance premiums and even to predict the probability of a convict reoffending. It will increasingly influence many aspects of our lives, from simple consumer credit to employers’ hiring decisions. While the advance of AI will produce economic gains, it will also produce losses and will threaten equality. The often technocentric perspective of some developers is ill suited to tackle those challenges and underestimates the complexity of interactions between humans and technology, further disadvantaging the marginalized in the process.
