Third night & the last of 2026 PoS.
Just one pint away from genius.
Quantum mechanics, without the math – Mind-bending physics. Zero equations. Full awe.
Decoding cellular interactions in blood cancer – The hidden conversations inside our cells — and what they reveal about treatment.
Operation Tolerance: The Parasite That Tames Immunity – The strange invader that doesn't attack… it negotiates. Giardia, a beautiful one of parasites.
Come for the science. Stay for the wonder.

Quantum mechanics, without the math
Mr Rivan Rughubar
(Forshungszentrum Jülich)
Quantum mechanics is notorious for being a difficult and confusing subject.
People have often said, "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't." So how is an average person supposed to approach this topic at all?
In this talk I will attempt to explain some of the key concepts of quantum mechanics with as little mathematics as possible and then use that to show how we employ quantum mechanics to build quantum computers.

Decoding cellular interactions in blood cancer
Dr Juliette Pearce
(RWTH Uniklinik Aachen)
The bone marrow is a complex and dynamic organ where diverse cell types interact to support blood formation.
In blood cancers called myeloproliferative neoplasms, cancerous cells can disrupt this delicate environment and actively drive the development of fibrotic scarring - which was long thought to be irreversible without risky surgical procedures such as stem cell transplantation.
This presentation will explore how studying these cellular interactions may reveal ways to reverse fibrosis, and restore healthy bone marrow function.
Operation Tolerance: The Parasite That Tames Immunity
Mr Jonas Pes
(Institute of Medical microbiology, RWTH Uniklinik Aachen)
Come along on a journey which uncovers the secrets of a pernicious parasite and learn how it is able to convince the immune system of its supposedly good intentions. Follow the unfolding story as this cunning invader rewires immune responses, steering them away from attack and toward tolerance. Discover how regulatory T cells are co-opted to quiet inflammation, creating a false sense of security while the parasite thrives. However, are the invaders intentions solely bad or was he only the calm before the storm? Find out yourself!
