Exploring new horizons, solving pressing problems and finding new applications for technology: Questions that science is trying to answer! In this event, three different researchers will talk about the crucial role of women as astrophysicists in the 19th century, the real reasons why we don't use more batteries in many machines and some elements that can help reduce pollution and lead us towards greener energies.
No previous knowledge is required to understand the main ideas behind these research projects. If you are curious about science and want to have a good time, this event is for you!

How catalysts will help us in the fight against climate change
Francesco Canizzaro
(Postdoctoral researcher at Fritz-Haber-Institute der MPG)
Learn how catalysts, like silent heroes, aid in the fight against climate change. Discover how these tiny agents work behind the scenes, helping reduce emissions and transform pollutants into useful resources. Join us in unveiling the power of catalysts for a greener, cleaner future accessible to all.
Women in Victorian astronomy expeditions
Megan Rhian Briers
(Doctoral student at Max Planck Institute for the History of Science)
Over the Victorian era, expeditions became increasingly common in astronomy and involved astronomers and instruments travelling across the world, with a lot resting on it not being cloudy for the precious moments of observation! I will discuss how women were involved in these expeditions and by looking at their varied and important contributions, I will argue for an expanded notion of what we think science involves and highlight the crucial role that collaboration plays in scientific work.
Not all batteries are created equal: the future of a battery powered world
Dr. Angela Harper
(Researcher at Fritz-Haber-Institute der MPG)
Why is my phone always dying? Are electric cars really green? Why aren’t airplanes battery powered?
In this talk I will debunk some common myths about batteries, electronic devices, and the future of electronic vehicles as a replacement for our petrol powered world. I am a computational physicist working on developing the next generation of Li-ion battery materials, and I hope to give you all a better idea of what that future looks like, and when your phone might last longer than a day.
